The Sugarhill Gang
Melle Mel & Scorpio (From the Furious 5)
West Street Mob
plus DJ Mike Panteli & Bill Blast (Juice FM)
Performing Live at the Concorde2 this July.
Pioneering rap band whose ‘Rappers Delight’ was the first ever rap song to hit the top 40 charts. Two of the original members of this historic group, Wonder Mike (Michael Wright) and Master Gee (Guy O’Brien) had teamed up with Henry Jackson (aka Big Bank Hank) to become the now famous Sugarhill Gang. This is where rap music began…respect!
DJ Melle Mel & Scorpio are members of legendary rap pioneers ‘Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five’. Their 1982 classic ‘The Message’ helped to establish hip hop as a powerful tool for raising social consciousness and was placed at number 51 on the Rolling Stone’s 500 greatest songs of all time. Their classic hit ‘White Lines’ spent an incredible 46 weeks on the UK chart. In 2004 the group became the first rap act to be nominated for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Melle Mel also worked with Chaka Khan on the hit ‘I Feel For You’ where his rap opens the track. The legends perform these classics and many others in a truly exciting live act.
West Street Mob were a boogie and electro music trio, active between 1981 and 1984, best known for their 1983 song “Break Dance – Electric Boogie”. The band comprises Joey Robinson, Jr. who is a son of Sugar Hill Records founder Sylvia Robinson, trumpetist Bill McGee and singer Sabrina Gillison. Successful single includes “Let’s Dance”, peaking #18 on the Black Singles chart and #22 on the Dance chart.
